A new girl everyday: January 1, 2013 Fresh faced and fancy-free

Makeup is my art. I freaking love it. But after the Holiday Glitz, Glam and gloss, I find myself craving a fresh and clean face. Especially on my eyes. Holiday 2012 I put my peepers through the ringer. I was packing on glitter, sporting falsies daily and I even launched my own line of embellished lashes. I have sensitive eyes, so it is important for me to give them plenty of rest time and that means no eye makeup.

Skin
I'm still hooked on Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion as my day-time moisturizer. I was using the Super by Perricone eye cream (which I loved!!!) but now they have discontinued the whole Super line. I went about a week without eye cream before I started really freaking out. I could see a major difference in the moisture and texture around my eyes when I wasn't using it twice a day! I decided to give the Dr. Perricone firming eye cream a try. It's $65...gulp. I hate to spend that much, but I needed something comparable to the Super eye cream and this was what was recommended. It seems good so far. I have had some pretty nasty reactions to eye creams and I have been okay . It's creamy and smooth and doesn't make my under eye concealer disappear or cake up.
If you come across this eye cream, buy 3 for me. You will be handsomely rewarded.
The new eye cream I am testing out.

Face Makeup
I really did not want foundation on my face so I went with a product that has been floating around in my vanity for a few months. I pick it up, use it sometimes, but it's not a product I am in love with. I bought it on a whim at the drugstore because it seemed to be fairly natural and free of harsh chemicals.
I think the color range on this tinted moisturizer is a little off. All the shades seem far too pink for my skin. The texture is soft and a little like a souffle makeup. I am not particularly fond of the finish it leaves on my skin, not matte, not shiny, just kind of dull. Meh. It feels super light-weight though.

I contoured my cheekbones with my ultimate favorite discontinued Benefit blush Georgia. I have 4 of them now, so I am in no immediate danger of running out, but a part of me still stresses out every time I use it. It is the most perfect barely-there shade for my cheeks AND it smells like peaches. I love love it and when I think about not having it I feel a little emo inside.

I love you Georgia. So much......

Brows
I recently stocked up on my favorite Sephora brow pencil, I bought 4 of them on amazon.com. I live right near Sephora, but avoiding the #27 bus and all the tourists in Union Square is definitely worth paying a little shipping. I am exclusively using this product on my brows now. I really really love it. The color is dead on perfect for me.

Eyes
I use NARS smudge-proof primer on my eyes everyday, even if I am not wearing eye makeup. It is completely clear but keeps my lids smooth and shine free. I have quite veiny eyelids and this product seems to diminish that flaw as well. The only thing on my eyes is a teeny pop of MAC gesso shadow under the highest point in the arch of my brow. This trick really lifts up my brows and creates a beautiful sculpted look. It's a super easy way to look a little more awake!

Lips
I have raved time and time again about Rimmel's Kate Moss signature lipstick line. This is a new color I just picked up at Walgreens. It is shade #113, a dreamy creamy peachy nude. I adore it. And for around $6 it's a total steal.

It's a new year and I can't wait to see what beauty trends 2013 brings! Makeup and skincare technology changes rapidly and better products are always coming out. I hope to blog more, and write reviews on all the new things I test out on my face. I would love to hear if my suggestions for products work for anyone out there. Or geez, lemme know if my ideas suck too! I am pretty confident they don't, but I'm not afraid of criticism. We are all just learning everyday, so pick up your makeup and let's play!

  1. I stress out when I use any of my Benefit box blushes... now you made it worse. Didn't know Georgia was discontinued. WTF. I need to try this Kate Moss shit. I live near a different Target store now and they carry a pretty full line of ELF cosmetics (From China) and I am in loooooove with the pen eyeliner. It is matte and I'm loving that right now. It's like a dollar!

  2. Yeah Krista...Georgia and Throb are discontinued. Sucks!! I am a pretty big fan of E.L.F. I bought an entire set of their pro brushes for like $12 and they are really good! I also like their whipped highlighter tubes, I bought them all because at $1 each they are a steal and super versatile. I will have to check and see if my City Target sells E.L.F because I have been buying on amazon. I will have to check out the liner pen! Thank god we don't live in the same town anymore...those makeup hauls we used to do were crazzzzzy!
